Fishy by Name Only

Fish Creek, known as Fishy to the locals, is a small but wonderfully vibrant community in South Gippsland snuggled in near Wilson’s Promontory and Cape Liptrap Coastal National Parks. There are beaches and bushwalking options close by and easily accessible from the town.

The magnificent Great Southern Rail Trail passes right through the town on its way east to Foster, Toora and Yarram, or Meeniyan and Leongatha to the west. The v/line bus from Southern Cross station stops in town and is a handy jumping off point for exploring the area.

Fishy is surrounded by magnificent farming country and has thriving dairy, cattle and sheep farms, as well as olive groves, honey, flower and herb farms. There are also wineries and a cidery offering cellar door and dining options.

Fishy has galleries and shops showcasing the work of local artists and artisans As well as public art displays in the sculpture park and streetscape.

Fishy also offers exceptional tea, coffee, cakes, pastries and other locally sourced food options at a choice of cafes and the famous Fishy pub, with it’s even more famous ‘Big Mullet’ on the roof.

Other businesses in the main street include handmade objects, hardware, general store, pharmacy, photographers, post office and other gift and keepsake offerings.

The recently refurbished  Fish Creek Memorial Hall was built in 1930 and is owned by the local community. The hall is a social and cultural hub in Fish Creek, hosting music performances, film screenings, community gatherings, exercise classes and the iconic op shop. It is also the home of the beloved Fish Creek Tea Cosy Festival, hosting the main exhibition, Devonshire teas and other key festival events!
