Dreamweaver is the latest creation by inclusive arts company (it’s no) drama in collaboration with artists Sarah Parkes and Michael Shirrefs. The work is an outdoor installation inspired by the rolling hills of South Gippsland and evokes human-like figures curled up like blankets, inhabiting the liminal space between waking and sleep. Crafted from repurposed silage wrap, the piece transforms discarded materials into something magical. An enchanting soundtrack creates an ethereal and immersive encounter—a sonic space to rest, reflect, and dream. Dreamweaver is supported by the Australian Government through the Festivals Australia program.
This sculpture garden has been created by local artists Andrew McPherson and Isabel Whyte as both a gift to the community and an outlet for their creative spirit. Enjoy a wander through this evocative and contemplative space right next to our famous rail trail. The Sculpture Garden will be the site of our festival fire event on the evening of Saturday 23 May – be sure to catch that one!
Local artist Helen Sammonds, from The HandMakers Store, thinks any chain wire fence is a lost opportunity for art. She’s fixed that for us. It’s sooo much better now.
Sarah’s inspiration comes from the rugged beauty in the bushy coastal landscape where she lives in Walkerville, South Gippsland. It’s a beauty that reflects strength, endurance and vulnerability – in the twisted branches shaped by coastal winds, the intricate micro worlds of shape and pattern in plants and the majestic, ancient rock formations. Light and colour is her language to express an inner space, deeply felt through an intuitive response to the landscape. Little Oberon is open 9am to 2pm every day of the festival (except 10am on Sundays for a tiny sleep in)
Cathy’s solar-fired porcelain and stoneware can be found in some of Melbourne’s finest restaurants. Her teapots have gained recognition and awards for their elegance and faultless pouring. Pain Perdu is open each day of the festival – 9am – 4.30pm.

Visit our three Art Cubes (provided by South Gippsland Shire) in the Village Green to see who, how and why of (it’s no) drama Dreamweaver installation, Fish Creek’s farming and innovative history and our young members of the Fish Creek Primary School who have created the decorative bunting on display throughout the town. Altogether, it’s a talented town!
Wander up the hill above Fish Creek on Keanes Road and discover a wonderland of creativity. Bianca Biesuz-Stefani’s gallery is housed in an historic home amid an orchard and small vineyard. As a special festival treat Bianca has a diverse collection of teapots on display in her Gallery as well as her exceptional artworks.
Alison Lester’s Gallery is one of the town’s year round draw cards. Nestled in the heart of Fish Creek – not far from where Alison was born – and in the middle of the landscape that inspired her classic books, including My Farm. What a perfect fit with our festival theme! Alison is a national treasure and her books are beloved by generations of kids from around the world. A visit to her gallery and bookshop is a must for all ages. Open everyday of the Festival.
Feeling inspired by what you’re seeing and want some instant gratification by contributing to a communal work of art? We’ve got you covered. The Community Embroidery Project and the Sit-n-Knit sessions for you to leave a little something of yourself behind at Fishy. Take some time out from the exhibition and workshops by taking a stitch or two. We’ll treasure your visit as much as you will. All materials supplied.
Permanent display of artworks Having spent over 35 years making things, largely in the solid timber furniture sector, Andy has built up phenomenal skills. He’s now turned those skills to making beautiful things. Andy’s gift is to see beauty where others may not and then, by presenting it in the right way, they can see it also. Sometimes that is as simple as lifting it from the ground and placing it on the wall. At other times it requires a great deal of manipulation. Knowing which to do is part of Andy’s creative magic. You will often find him in the workshop next to the gallery space creating the next piece. Closed Wednesday
The iconic Fishy Pub has a selection of baked goods and tea available for when your enthusiasm is strong but your body needs sustenance. Pop in for afternoon tea and cake revivals between 2 – 5pm during the festival ! While you are there check out local artist, Caron Jenkins, whose paintings represent the beauty of the Gippsland and Fish Creek environments. This area provides a never ending inspiration for her art. The Fishy Pub is open 12pm – 1am daily for lunch and dinner (or a refreshing bevvie).

Intro to Fair Isle Begin your love affair with Stranded Colourwork Knitting. This workshop is designed by Pru Raymond as an introduction to this popular colourwork technique also known as Fair Isle. Learn to read charts, select colours and tension yarns in one and two hands. Leave with confidence to cast on your first Fair Isle project. Materials Required: 4mm/80cm circular knitting needle or DPNs.2 x 50g balls/cakes of 8ply/DK yarn in solid/semi solid colours with a high contrast (ie. one white/very light coloured yarn and one mid to dark coloured yarn. Skill Level: This workshop is suitable for novice knitters who can knit and purl and follow a basic pattern but would now like to learn to work with two colours at a time. It is also suitable for knitters who have experienced issues with tangled yarns, uneven tension and other issues when knitting Fair Isle patterns and would like to improve their skills and the quality of their colourwork projects. On a Quest to Knit the Perfect Sock? This workshop is designed by Pru Raymond to guide knitters through a series of choices to plot their personalised ‘sock story:’ cuff down or toe up? Afterthought heel or short rows? What toe shaping and bind off should I choose? At the end of the workshop, participants will write a personlised ‘sock story’ to guide future sock knitting adventures. Materials 3.75mm circular knitting needle with 80cm circumference or DPNs 100g ball/cake of DK sock yarn (NB a 100g ball/cake is sufficient to make a mini sock in class and complete a full size pair using the recipe designed in class) OR 50f 8ply wool yarn in light colour (to make mini sock for learning purposes only). Jump Feet First into Brioche In this workshop, Pru Raymond will support you to develop a deep understanding of brioche fabric and skills, by firstly working two colour basic brioche in rows, and then exploring one colour brioche in rows, and one and two colour brioche in the round, using both written and charted instructions. And then at the next festival you’ll be ready to cosy your way into our hearts and minds! Leonie Margetts moved to the area in 2004. She has five daughters and three grandchildren. She lives with her devoted dog Maisie who allows her to knit as long as she gets out for the occasional stroll. Leonie’s active, creative brain is always thinking of what to knit next and what colours will work with what. She’s always loved sewing and knitting and usually doesn’t need patterns – she just makes them up. Knitting tea cosies helped Leonie cope with the loss of her daughter to cancer in 2009. When Fish Creek held its first Tea Cosy Festival in 2013 she came second, with a design that to this day is one of her favourites. Over the years she has made hundreds – all original and whatever idea came into her mind. What a genius! Leonie is joining us to assist knitters with getting started, getting finished and creating any embellishments their active and creative brains dream up in the session. With Gonzalo Varela Gonzalo Varela is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Fish Creek.In this relaxed, guided workshop, Gonzalo will encourage you to seek a fresh perspective on your own home. You will need to bring along a photo of your home (on your phone is fine). It could be a photo of a house, a farm, a corner where you like to sit or the animals that share your daily life. However, the photo doesn’t have to feature the obvious ‘good bits’; you can find the poetic element in the pile of dirty laundry, dishes on the bench, an abandoned shoe in the hallway … the intention of the workshop is to create something based on what you personally associate with your HOME. You will use this inspiration as a starting point to paint a scene, finding something essential in the everyday. Instead of copying the image, you’ll learn to observe, to simplify forms, follow the light and give character to the atmosphere.This is a space to slow down, observe, and capture a fleeting moment of your surroundings in paint: a small glimmer of light in the everyday landscape. At the end of the session, you can take home a truly personal painting.No prior experience is required; just attention, curiosity, and the willingness to look again. Here’s something very special. Learn to weave tea coasters with native grasses using the coil technique with native grasses local to the area. Listen to shared stories of First Nations weaving while learning the process of harvest, plants used and process to weave.Cassie Fisher Patterson is a Djaara (Dja Dja Wurrung) artist, jeweller and fashion designer, master weaver bushtukka woman and cultural educator. She is WILD BLAK and ARTS will inspire and unite. Fees from this workshop go to Cassie’s wildlife rehabilitation project, building aviaries, feeding and medical aid for animals and birds, planting native flora for environmental conservation for future generations of animals and people. Participants will be guided through the process of creating unique prints using the ‘reduction’ method of monoprinting. We will spend our time creating images onto flat acetate plates which have been inked up, drawing into and wiping back to create images which will then be transferred to beautiful printmaking paper through a small press. This technique of monoprinting is ideal for all levels of artistic experience, allowing for great expression and play of the wet ink on the plate, and producing a unique print on paper to keep. This workshop is designed to be fun and fulfilling. All materials will be supplied and set up ready for participants to get stuck into making prints, allowing maximum time to create! The inks used are all water based allowing easy clean up and low toxicity. We will use quality printmaking papers, including some Japanese papers, and all tools and rags etc are provided. We will have 3 small printing presses operational so there will be no waiting to print! BYO apron or clothes covering. Closed toe/covered shoes are also required. Bring along images you may wish to use as reference material. Kerry Spokes lives and works in South Gippsland, where her art practice has been established for many years. It’s getting cold – better get your beanie on! And let’s face it, a beanie is just a tea cosy without the slits! In this 3 hour intermediate workshop participants will learn how to knit their own stranded colour work (also known as fair isle), beanie as well as about other forms of colour work and when to apply them to different projects. Participants should ideally be familiar with knitting in the round prior to this class, but the topic will also be refreshed at the beginning of the lesson. Amy has been teaching knitting in Melbourne for 8 years. She is passionate about the life lessons and enrichment that can be gained from knitting. Materials not included in price. The important part of the ecosystem that never gets kudos. Well, we’re here for them. Our celebratory lanterns have been made by the district’s young and young at heart. Aileen Brown, linocut artist, is a recognised Melbourne print maker on the Australian national scene with many solo exhibitions since 1986 and some bookillustrations. Her works are found in many print collections such as Bendigo Regional Gallery, State Libraries of Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales,Museum of Melbourne, Deakin and Melbourne University, and National Library of Australia. Aileen has been a prolific printmaker since the 1980s. Aileen brings her exceptional skills to the Festival for this special workshop. Each participant will print an edition of 10 linocuts – using the reduction method with two or three colours.All materials provided. Buy tickets here

Explore the benefits of native edible and medicinal plants with our medicinal bushtukka brews. Learn to grow and harvest with seasons and the benefits of the infused leaves for wellbeing, participants will learn about each plant and decide what brew they would want to make and enjoy with demonstration and presentation on numerous varieties. Cassie Fisher Patterson is a Djaara (Dja Dja Wurrung) artist, jeweller and fashion designer, master weaver bushtukka woman and cultural educator. She is WILD BLAK and ARTS will inspire and unite. Fees from this workshop go to Cassie’s wildlife rehabilitation project, building aviaries, feeding and medical aid for animals and birds, planting native flora for environmental conservation for future generations of animals and people. Open to beginners and experienced meditation practitioners alike! You are welcome to come to any number of the sessions – all four or just one. Brief instructions will be given at the beginning of each session. Session One 9 – 11am Session Two 11am – 12.45pm (Lunch break 12.45 – 1.30pm: Please bring your own lunch. Tea will be provided.) Session Three 1.30 – 3.30pm Session Four 3.30 – 5pm $5 at the door per session (no bookings required) Please dress comfortably. Chairs, benches, cushions available.
